Russia says hit military bases in missile barrage on Ukraine

Russia says all the targets in Ukraine assigned by the military were hit in an overnight barrage of missiles.

For the second time in 24 hours, the Russian military targeted Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, in a series of attacks on Monday, which, according to the defense ministry, “hit all assigned targets.”

The ministry said long-range precision-strike missiles had struck storage facilities with “ammunition, weapons and military equipment supplied by Western countries.”

In Kiev, however, Ukrainian authorities, claimed air defenses had downed all the Russian projectiles.

“A total of 11 missiles were fired: 'Iskander-M' and 'Iskander-K' from a northerly direction,” said the commander of Ukraine's armed forces Valery Zaluzhny. “All the targets were destroyed by air defenses.”

Russian drones and cruise missiles were also hit by Ukraine’s air defense, according to authorities, who said 29 of the 35 drones and 37 of the 40 cruise missiles fired overnight by Russia had been targeted.

In a rare acknowledgment, Kiev also said overnight strikes caused damage to the facilities in the capital as well as the western region of Khmelnitskiy. “Another difficult night for the capital,” Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram messaging channel on Monday.

The Khmelnitskiy region governor's office said work continued “to contain fires in storage facilities for fuel and lubricants and munitions.”
