Pars Today – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Western countries resort to coercion and pressure in pursuit of their objectives in violation of the United Nations Charter, stressing that Moscow, together with its allies, will continue to oppose this approach.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, Lavrov said in a speech at the annual meeting of the Russian Association of International Law:

"Western countries, in violation of the United Nations Charter, make extensive use of various methods of blackmail and pressure—from illegal unilateral sanctions to outright armed aggression—to achieve their objectives."

He added:

"Russia, together with many like-minded countries from around the world, will continue its efforts to overcome these dangerous trends."

The Russian foreign minister also said that Russia and its allies will continue to support efforts to strengthen the principles of international law in global affairs.

Earlier, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) announced in a joint statement that they would intensify sanctions targeting Russia's oil and gas sectors in order to increase pressure on the Russian economy, while also expanding the delivery of air defense systems and other military capabilities to Ukraine.

The German news website Deutsche Welle reported that the G7 leaders had pledged in their statement to step up economic pressure on Russia.
