Pars Today - China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations has emphasized that the path of political and diplomatic resolution of Iran's nuclear issue must be adhered to.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, defending Beijing's negative vote on the draft resolution to extend the mandate of the Iran sanctions expert group, emphasized that the path of political and diplomatic resolution of Iran's nuclear issue must be adhered to.

Sun Lei, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said at the General Assembly meeting on the use of the veto: Any action that leads to escalation of tension and confrontation or destroys the negotiation and dialogue process must be rejected, and every opportunity to reduce tension and advance diplomatic efforts must be used.

Explaining China's position on the Iran nuclear case, he added: The current deadlock in the Iran nuclear issue stems from the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear agreement, the imposition of a maximum pressure policy against Iran, and US military action during negotiations with Iran.

China's representative to the United Nations also said: Distorting the history of the Iran nuclear issue and insisting on advancing the process of reinstating sanctions and presenting a disputed draft resolution harm the unity and credibility of the Security Council and obstruct diplomatic efforts.

Sun Lei emphasized: China's negative vote in the Security Council was aimed at preserving the path of political resolution of the Iran nuclear issue, properly addressing concerns related to nuclear weapons proliferation, and helping to establish lasting peace and stability in West Asia.

He added: Equal dialogue and negotiation are the path to resolving the issue, and all parties must respect Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Sun Lei also emphasized that any action by the Security Council must help create suitable conditions for the resumption of negotiations, address the legitimate concerns of various parties, and achieve a long-term agreement.

In conclusion, he said that China, as a permanent member of the Security Council and one of the participants in the nuclear agreement, will continue its efforts to reduce tension, mediate, and advance dialogue, and will cooperate for the political resolution of the Iran nuclear issue, the preservation of the international non-proliferation system, and the establishment of peace and stability in West Asia.

It is worth noting that the United Nations Security Council on September 17 (Shahrivar 26) put the US-proposed draft resolution to extend the mandate of the Iran sanctions committee's expert group to a vote, which China and Russia blocked with their negative votes. After this veto, the United Nations General Assembly discussed the matter on October 1 within the framework of the mechanism for reviewing the use of the veto.
