UN chief wants an end to attacks on Muslims in Mynamar
The UN Chief, Antonio Guterres, has urged the government of Myanmar to end raids on the Muslims in Rokhine State, in order to set the stage for delivery of humanitarian assistance to them.
According to IRIB World Service, the UN chief, throughout the emergency meeting of UN Security Council, on Thursday, which was convened in order to study the appalling conditions of Muslims in Myanmar, pointed out that the situation in West Myanmar has turned into a nightmare.
The UN chief reminded that reports refer to bouts of violence waged by the army of Myanmar and radical Buddhists against Muslims, flagrant violation of human rights, indiscriminate shootouts, usage of mines, and sexual violence against Rohingya Muslims; which are totally unacceptable.
The Iranian President, Hassan Rohani, throughout the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Myanmar, convened in New York, on Tuesday, September 19, noted that indifference toward the flagrant violation of the basic rights of Rohingya Muslims, surges radicalism. The Iranian president had called on the UN and OIC to appropriately react to the appalling conditions of Muslim community in Myanmar.
A new wave of invasive attacks by the army of Myanmar have been waged against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State as of Friday, August 25, leading to martyrdom of over 6,000 Muslims and injury of 8,000 others. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have also been forced to flee to Bangladesh.
