Indian authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar in order to foil the mourning processions of Shia Muslim mourners who are commemorating martyrdom anniversary of Imam Husain (AS) in Kashmir.

According to local media reports, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday detained dozens of Shia Muslim mourners to prevent them from taking part in a Muharram procession in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.

The authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar falling under the jurisdiction of Shaheed Gunj, Batamaloo, Sherghari, Kothibagh, Ram Munshi Bagh, Maisuma, and Kral Khud police stations to foil the procession, Greater Kashmir reported.

Reports said that dozens of mourners tried to take out procession from Batamaloo area of the city but a large posse of police intercepted them near Fire and Emergency Service Headquarters at Batamaloo and bundled them in police vans.

Earlier today, police also detained scores of Shiite mourners to prevent them to take Muharram procession in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
