Gratitude to God for the Tabas miracle

Today is the anniversary of a modern day miracle. It is the day when 36 years ago, a well-planned US invasion force was reduced to ashes in the sands near the remote Iranian desert town of Tabas, as it tried to launch surprise attack on the Islamic Republic in the dead of night.

The day in 1980 was 25th April, corresponding to 5th of Ordibehesht of the Iranian calendar, but this year, since 2016 of the Gregorian calendar was a leap year with one day extra for the month of February, the 5th of Ordibehesht has fallen on April 24. Here, before presenting to you a special feature on this occasion, we recite to you ayah 54 of Surah Aal-e Imran of the holy Qur’an which is indicative of the Infinite Power of God Almighty over the plots of human beings:

“They planned and God planned, and certainly God is the Best of planners.”

Today is the anniversary of the miracle that wiped out a well-trained force of commandos of the world’s most dangerously-armed nuclear power. Tabas stands out as a divine slap on the face of the US, which was rightly called ‘Great Satan’ by that Sage of the Age, Imam Khomeini (God bless him), for its plots against world nations. The miracle at Tabas indeed refreshed the minds of the believers about what the Holy Qur’an has narrated in Surah al-Feel of the wiping out of the Elephant-led force of the Ethiopian governor of Yemen, Abraha in 570 AD when that arrogant unbeliever attempted to storm the symbolic house of the One and Only Lord in Mecca, the holy Ka’ba.

“What! Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the hordes of the Elephant? Did he not cause their device to err?

On this day in 1980 when the elephantine force of the US launched a surprise attack while the Muslim Iranian nation was asleep with full trust and confidence in God Almighty, the sands around Tabas in the remote northeastern desert of Iran suddenly became animated sending American planes and personnel crashing into each other. Flames leapt from all sides and within moments Washington’s dream of forcing Iran back into its orbit evaporated for good. The rest is history. For the past three-and-a-half decades Uncle Sam has spared no efforts, whether political, economic, cultural, industrial, technological etc, to try to check the progress of the Iranian nation. But it has failed miserably. That explains why a frustrated US president once implicitly threatened Iran with atomic weapons in his misconstrued belief that the Islamic Republic will bow to his dictates and forego all its God-given legitimate rights.

Therefore, in view of these undeniable facts, Ordibehesht 5 will remain a red-letter day in the annals of the Islamic Revolution long after the US ceases to exist on the map of the world. The message is loud and clear. God is the Best of planners.

Today when the Americans, their client regimes, and their terrorist agents, are taking a beating all over the Muslim world, the latest being the shamefaced debacle of the unholy Saudi-US-Zionist alliance in Yemen, let us reflect on the great blessings of living in peace and stability in Iran under the benign laws of Islam, while the whole region is in turmoil against the puppet regimes ruling countries repressively in our neighbourhood.

We all owe this divine grace to the Islamic spirit of the Iranian Muslims, who under the enlightened leadership of that Sage of the Age, Imam Khomeini, strove with bare fists to throw into the dustbin of history not just the despotic regime of the Pahlavi potentate, but also the hegemony of his masters, the British and the Americans. Thus it was this deep faith is Islam and its dynamic laws that made God Almighty to reward the Iranian Muslim nation with a miraculous victory against a very intricate plot of which they were not even the least aware.

The morning after the Tabas invasion, when the nation woke up they realized what a grave calamity had been averted by Divine Decree, as reward for the deep faith in Islam of the Iranian people. This means, the 5th of Odibehesht is a day of thanksgiving in Iran, and whoever does not express his/her gratitude to God for this favour is definitely an ungrateful wretch who does not deserve the benefits the Iranian society is enjoying today.

Just visualize, what if God had not helped us, what would have been the fate of Iran?

The result would have been catastrophic; with no peace, stability, honour, dignity, independence, self-sufficiency, industrial progress, scientific breakthroughs, technological development, and above all, moral and ethical advancement in Iran. God forbid, we would have been living like slaves in an American client state with the Zionists tightening their tentacles on the economy and political life of the country – worse than Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Moroccoa, Persian Gulf Sheikhdoms, or Mahmoud Abbas' West Bank.

There would have no Islamic Wave in the region, and no change of governments in some of the despotic states – or for that matter no Intefadha in Palestine, no anti-terrorist movement like the Hezbollah in Lebanon, and no Ansarollah in Yemen, because there would not have been any role model to inspire uprisings and freedom movements.

Moreover, Iran would have turned into a gigantic den of vice with no hijab or concept of chastity for most women, no virtue and the dignified basiji spirit among the youth, and no peace of mind for the virtuous and the God-fearing.

In view of these facts, we should never ever neglect commemoration of the Miracle of Tabas, which was indeed divine help for the selfless efforts of Iranian Muslims, and a promise from God that as long as the people stick to the path of Prophet Mohammad (SAWA) and his Infallible Household, no supposedly mighty military or economic power will be able to threaten Iran – not even at the negotiating table where talks are underway for end of all illegal sanctions on Iran, because of its spectacular progress in its peaceful nuclear project.
