Iran was immensely damaged during the 8-year war that was imposed by the US through its flunkey, Saddam. Thousands of people were martyred by the missiles and bombs that were financially supported by the reactionary Sheikhdoms of the Persian Gulf and nurtured by the US spying services.

In that war, thousands of the innocent Iranians and Iraqis were victimized by chemical and biological weapons that had been gifted to Saddam by his western accomplices. These crimes were committed while the UN turned a blind eye and deaf ear to all of them.

The United States has many times threatened the Islamic Republic of military attack but has never dared to realize it; but it has used its hired evil elements in the region to stir sedition inside the country. 

The United Sates had an office of interests in Iraq with 14 diplomats from 1972 to the breakout of Iraqi war against Iran. But when Saddam was on the verge of defeat in the war in 1983, the US announced in a statement that the American government would do whatever is legal and necessary to prevent Iraq’s defeat. Hence, the United States announced the restoration of diplomatic ties with Iraq after 11 years of severance. Conte Timmerman, political analyst, wrote that America has allowed Saddam to think of a green light in attacking Iran.

When Saddam’s western supporters, especially the US, faced with the stiff resistance and iron resolve of Iranians in the imposed war, they decided to support Saddam via equipping him with weapons of mass destruction. The American news agency, United Press, wrote after the arrest of Saddam, “This fact has now been exposed that Saddam’s chemical and biological programs during 1980s would not be feasible without the American support.”

One of the employees of the Senate Committee of Foreign Relations said in those days that whenever Iraq violated international laws and used WMDs, he would receive more US support and financial and political aids. He added, “Definitely we had impact on Saddam because we had made him believe that it is very important that he wouldn’t be prosecuted because of the murders he is doing in the country.”

The scientific company, American Type Culture Collection, dispatched a pack of chemical and biological elements to Baghdad in 1986 which included three kinds of anthrax, five kinds of botulinum toxin, and three kinds of Brucella bactria. The American regime breached all international commitments via continuation of its destructive policies.

Political analyst and university professor, Siamak Baqeri, says, “As the western countries were the first users of the lethal chemical weapons, they were the first exporters of these weapons, too; and during the imposed war, Iraq got its chemical weapons from 150 German, American and British companies.”

Chemical war began in WWI in early 20^th century and culminated in Iraq’s war against Iran in late 20^th century.

The United States of America never stopped its crimes and plots against the Iranian nation. In the last year of the imposed war, the US practically entered the war. On July 3, 1988, the US warship Vincennes targeted a passenger plane of the Islamic Republic of Iran traveling from Bandar Abbas to Dubai and murdered all the 290 passengers including 66 children and 46 non-Iranians. The shameless American officials never apologized for this crime against humanity and they even awarded the commander of the warship, Will Rogers, with medal. The Great Satan (United States of America) has turned the region to a war zone and has killed millions of innocent people in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and so on. The US is pretending to defend the innocent and fight terrorists while the contrary is true. Ayatollah Khamenei, in part of his message to the pilgrims of Hajj wrote, “Today look at the conduct of the arrogant and criminal US. Its main policy in the face of Islam and Muslims is warmongering. Its vicious desire and effort is to make Muslims murder one another; to embolden oppressors against the oppressed, to support the oppressor, through him to suppress the oppressed faction cruelly, and to fuel the fire of this horrible sedition constantly.”
