The costs of the election campaigns of presidential hopefuls, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, to this date, stands at $1.49bn, which is equivalent to the UNICEF budget for west and central African countries for a period of 18 months.

Central and West African countries are among the poorest regions in the world. These regions suffer from civil wars, drought, and abysmal poverty. There are sixteen countries in West Africa; the richest one of which is ranked 122nd among 185 countries in relation to welfare.

The countries of Chad and Cameroon, which are situated in central Africa, are respectively ranked 154th and 149th among world countries in relation to welfare.

The children of these regions are among the most deprived and disadvantaged children in the globe. UNICEF has been established to assist these children in meeting their primary needs and materializing their potentials.

In the year 2015, UNICEF allocated $973.2 million for these regions. This is while, as mentioned, the costs of election campaigns of the candidates, running for president, in the US, have stood at a staggering sum of $1.49bn to this date.
