Trump's character in books
The year 2018 passed by and most of the news agencies and publications are reviewing the important events of the year.
The famous and controversial figures, bestselling films and books and hot events from every corner of the world are published on dailies and magazines, though many important developments are totally or partly ignored due to the lack of interest for the staff of Mainstream Media which are mainly controlled by their masters and by big money.
Like most people in the world, you may also consider the US president as an unpredictable individual. As a person with controversial tweets, unexpected behaviors, and contradictory remarks, he has become a good source for caricatures of magazines and newspapers.
Over the past two years, a lot of titles have been published about Trump and his life, and almost all of them have been considered by book readers in the US and other countries and are often at the top of the bestselling English-language books.
Earlier, books about Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Hillary Clinton and even Sarah Palin were the bestselling books in the US and English-speaking community. But within nine months of 2018, more than five million copies were sold of the three books written on the Trump administration and Donald Trump himself.
The narrations and accounts on the US presidents usually go viral after the end of their tenure. But as the American historian and author John Maycham puts it, "As always, Trump has accelerated the process."
Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House written by Michael Wolff is among the works which were published in early 2018 and is still at top of the bestselling books. This book reveals the details of the conducts of the US president and his staff during presidential campaigns and in the White House. By emphasizing on Trump's behavior, the book shows the interactions between the White house top officials and the chaos that governs it.
The author has unveiled the real character of the US president and exposed the facts about Trump’s family. Of course, the critics of this book have accepted the author's views on Trump's inefficiency in general but are doubtful on some of his claims.
The US president, Donald Trump, said that Michael Wolff's book is full of lies and mistakes, pointing out sources that do not exist. But, Michael Wolff said he has recorded conversations and notes that confirm his writings.
The author of the book considers Trump incompetent for the US presidency and writes that he cannot focus on political issues though they are tiny, and this is confirmed by even the most loyal people to him.
Some contents of the book have already been featured in the media, including a video of Donald Trump and his nasty talk about women. But there are new details in the book that were annoying for the White House, such as Robert Müller's investigation of Russian interference and the suspicion about Trump's IQ.
Michael Wolff said in an interview: "I'll tell God once every day, thank you for Trump." Indeed, he should thank the US President, because had there not been Trump as the US president, he would have never earned $13 million in 2018 to join the 10 top money-making writers for the first time.
Another book, which is among the 2018 best-sellers, is “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership" by James Comey, former chief of the FBI. During the first week of publication, 600,000 copies of the book were sold and thus broke the record of “Fire and Fury". The author explores the characteristics of moral leadership and, after reviewing the structure of mafia families in the US, shows that Donald Trump has the same style and characteristics as a mafia boss and governs the US with the same attitude.
Parts of James Comey's book on Trump deal with some of the most important events in US presidential election, such as Hillary Clinton's emails, the alleged Russian interference in the US elections and the disclosure of Donald Trump's moral scandals. “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership" by addressing political relations in the US, tends to suggest that Trump is the product of the US political structure.
Part of the book reads: "This president does not adhere to morality, truth, and institutional values. His leadership is selfish and only about personal loyalty."
Trump had lashed out at James Comey's book even before publishing. Trump's clash with James Comey began when the US Federal Police began research on so-called Russian involvement in the US 2016 election and the possibility of Trump's collusion with Moscow. However, J. Brian Comey, father of James Comey, in an interview said that all these were because Trump had been horrified by his son.
The book by Bob Woodward, the old American journalist, was another best-seller in 2018. The book is titled “Fear: Trump in the White House” and what distinguishes it from other works, is the author's reports of his longtime presence at Washington Post.
This book introduces Trump as an inappropriate and incompetent manager. In addition to describing the US president as psychotic, the book explains that Trump's victory in the election was unthinkable and his wife was in the stake of mental health due to the shock of the news. In part of Woodward’s book, we read: US Secretary of War James Mattis, after meeting with Donald Trump on the Korean peninsula, considered his behavior as childish. It is also written that John Clay, White House Chief of Staff, has considered Trump as a foolish person and any effort to persuade him will be futile.
One month after publishing this work, the US media wrote that the book “Fear” is presently one of the country’s bestsellers and predicted that it would be among the five bestselling books in 2018. Nonetheless, after its publication, Trump described the book as a joke and declared that he himself will write the real book.
It is to be noted that reaction to Donald Trump’s behavior and words have not been limited to writing books. The British daily Guardian wrote in a report that an unidentified person bought copies of dystopian novels such as George Orwell's "1984" and Eric Larsen's "In the Garden of Animals" and put them in public access along with the note "Read, Fight!".
According to Book Smith publications in San Francisco, these books were finished very soon and that person keeps doing this. The act is aimed at stimulating people to fight the Trump administration and his policies. Book Smith, which believes in the impact of written literature on people, has announced that it will order 100 more of Orwell's masterpiece and hopes that people will continue to do this good act and that this movement will spread between them.
Since Donald Trump's coming to power, the sale of books dealing with dystopia has grown dramatically. Works such as 1984, The Brave New World (by Aldous Huxley), and The Man in the High Castle (by Philip K. Dick) are some of them.
One of the reasons for the public enthusiasm towards "1984" and its cinematic and dramatic copy after Trump's coming to power was the speech by Trump's political consultant, Kellyanne Conway and her references to the book. In her interview, she used the terms such as "alternative realities" and "dual thinking," each of which has a meaning in Orwell's book. This speech was repeatedly re-published on social networks and the woman was accused of confirming the contents.
Even after a dramatic increase in the sale of 1984, a theatre group brought a version of the novel to the scene and faced a widespread reaction from the audience.
Welcoming the books written against Trump, indicates that his popularity has plummeted among Americans.
