Riots erupt in Los Angeles amid crackdown on immigration policy protests
Pars Today – Protests against US President Donald Trump’s immigration policies erupted into chaos in Los Angeles, with the city descending into violence.
Hundreds of demonstrators clashed with police. Trump has ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to be deployed to suppress the protests. Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters, who responded with rocks, fireworks, and by setting fire to trash bins and vehicles.
The unrest, now in its third day, erupted after immigration officials arrested dozens of individuals described as illegal migrants and gang members. The raids, conducted in broad daylight in a city with a significant Latino population, sparked outrage in Los Angeles.
Critics charged Trump with escalating tensions by deploying California’s National Guard, typically under the control of Governor Gavin Newsom. / IRIB news agency
