Jordan’s military decision in response to Netanyahu’s “Greater Israel” dream
Pars Today – The recent aggressive and expansionist remarks by the Israeli regime’s prime minister about the dream of a “Greater Israel” have strongly mobilized both public and official circles in Jordan, to the extent that the country’s crown prince has announced the return of compulsory military service.
The Arabic-language daily Rai al-Youm wrote on Monday, referring to the ongoing developments in Jordan following Netanyahu’s “Greater Israel” rhetoric: “Has the Israeli prime minister triggered the return of compulsory military service in Jordan?”
The paper added that Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah of Jordan declared: “So that young people can defend the country.” This marks the first time in 30 years that conscription is being reinstated in Jordan—a decision that has greatly surprised both domestic and international circles.
Announcing this move in the northern city of Irbid, Prince Hussein described it as part of efforts to defend Jordan. Observers see it as a warning signal tied directly to the Israeli prime minister’s recent statements about the so-called “Greater Israel” project.
Rai al-Youm noted that the suspension of conscription had been a peacetime decision taken after the Wadi Araba Treaty. The decision to reinstate it carries very specific messages for the Israelis and their Western allies.
