Ghalibaf: Any action against Iran will be met with reciprocal response
Pars Today – The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament declared the reinstatement of sanctions on Iran illegal and said: “If any action is taken against the Islamic Republic, we will respond in a reciprocal and serious manner.”
Mohammad-Baqer Ghalibaf, in a post on his personal social media page, outlined five key points regarding the activation of the “snapback mechanism” by three European countries. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the implementation of the snapback and the return of sanction resolutions illegal. Given that Russia and China, as two permanent members of the UN Security Council, have explicitly stated this in official statements and public positions, no country is obliged to comply with them.
He added: “Accordingly, the Islamic Republic does not consider itself obliged to adhere to these illegal resolutions, including suspension of enrichment, and we believe that our right to enrichment is still recognized under international law.”
Mohammad-Baqer Ghalibaf recalled: “It has already been stated that the sanctions outlined in this resolution are not significantly impactful compared to U.S. sanctions. Furthermore, due to the illegality of invoking the snapback mechanism, and given that Russia and China have explicitly declared it unlawful, the implementation of sanction resolutions at the United Nations faces serious legal obstacles.”
He added: “At the same time, we declare that if any country, acting on the basis of these illegal resolutions, takes action against Iran, it will be met with a reciprocal and serious response from Tehran — and the three European countries that initiated these measures will also witness our reaction.”
