Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to pay an official visit to Tehran next month to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on a range of issues, including ways to boost bilateral ties between the two Asian countries, an Iranian diplomat announced.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Iranian Ambassador to India Gholamreza Ansari said the Indian prime minister will start his two-day trip to the Islamic Republic on May 22.
He also said that holding consultations with Iranian officials on various political and economic issues, including the contract on the development of Iran’s southern port city of Chabahar, as well as delivering a speech at a gathering of Iranian businessmen and merchants are among Modi’s plans during the visit.
Modi will visit the Iranian capital in search of opportunities in various fields of energy sector following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.
The visit by Modi will come after Indian Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj travelled to Tehran earlier this month and discussed ways to bolster energy cooperation between the two nations.
