Iran routs Qatar in FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers

FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifying games that had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic are back in action, with Iran routing their Group E rivals Qatar 84-to-46.

According to Press TV, Iran’s National Basketball Team (Team Melli), who had collected 3 wins out of their previous 4 games, got off to a brilliant start against Qatar, opening up a 9 point advantage in the first quarter, before pushing their lead to 18 by half-time. Things didn’t improve for Qatar after the break, as Iran took the third quarter by 7 points, and added 13 points more in the fourth, to win the game with a 38 point margin.

Iran is now at the top of the group with 9 points. The two teams that finish at the top of the standings in each of the 6 groups will directly qualify for the 2021 Asia Cup.
