The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has risen to above 129,000, the Health Ministry said.

Figures released by the ministry on Tuesday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 132 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 129,185.

According to the statistics, 5,144 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 762 of them hospitalized.

More than 5.8 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,088,000 who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.

Some 3,386 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

It also said that more than 56.94 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 45.38 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 258 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.17 million.
