President Ebrahim Raeisi has called for the expansion of bilateral relations between Iran and Kuwait, saying the two countries need to upgrade their bilateral cooperation through more reciprocal visits.

Raeisi made the remarks on Tuesday night during a phone conversation with the Emir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

“Increasing the [reciprocal visits] of the officials of the two countries can further operationalize and activate the existing capacities to enhance the level of bilateral cooperation,” he told Kuwait’s emir.

The president pointed to the memorable history of Iran-Kuwait relations, saying the two neighbors should restore their ties to their real capacity.

He also felicitated the emir on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the blessed month of Ramadhan, and expressed hopes for unity among Islamic countries.

“Such occasions contribute to bringing closer the hearts of Muslims and further strengthen Islamic countries’ unity,” Raeisi said.

The president also hailed as wise Kuwait’s stances on regional conspiracies.

For his part, Sheikh Nawaf voiced satisfaction with the new approach of the Islamic Republic, namely the Raeisi administration’s emphasis on boosting relations with neighboring countries.

He also expressed hope to host President Raeisi in Kuwait soon.

“Meetings between the officials of the two countries, especially the high-ranking officials, can help expand relations between the two countries and strengthen joint efforts to secure mutual benefits,” he agreed.
