Iran congratulates Kenya on successful election
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry congratulated the Kenyan government and people on holding the country’s presidential election successfully.
According to Tasnim news agency, in a statement, Nasser Kanaani praised the role of the Kenyan government, parties, politicians, ethnic elders and religious leaders in holding the vote, describing it as an example of successful experience in the region and the wider African continent.
Congratulating Kenya’s president-elect, the Iranian spokesperson expressed hope that the political process and the formation of the country’s cabinet would result in the fulfillment of the demands and aspirations of the Kenyan people.
Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto was officially declared the winner of the August 9 election by a slender margin.
Electoral Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto the winner on Monday with 50.49 percent of the vote against Raila Odinga’s 48.5 percent.
