Iranian, Ugandan FMs call for bolstering economic, trade ties

The foreign ministers of Iran and Uganda in a meeting in New York called for the promotion of bilateral ties in different areas, especially in the economic and trade fields.

According to Tasnim news agency, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Ugandan counterpart Haji Odongo discussed the expansion of economic and trade relations in the meeting.

Referring to the importance of Africa in the foreign policy agenda of the 13th Iranian administration, Amir-Abdollahian said Uganda has an important status in this regard.

The top Iranian diplomat announced the readiness of Iran’s private sector to implement technical and engineering projects and the presence of more Iranian businessmen, including knowledge-based companies, in Uganda, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website.

While welcoming the focus of  President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi’s administration on the expansion of trade and economic relations with African countries, the Ugandan foreign minister said the exchange of economic and trade delegations with Iran increased over the last year.

He emphasized it is a good opportunity to strengthen relations between the two countries as much as possible.

Haji Odongo added that cooperation in international forums, mutual support for the candidates of the two countries in specialized institutions and agencies, and exchange of views on the use of clean energy were among the most important topics in the talks between the foreign ministers of Iran and Uganda.
