  • Iran to launch Nahid satellite into space: ICT minister

Iran's Minister of Information and Communications Technology Issa Zarepour unveiled plans to launch the homegrown satellite “Nahid” into orbit in the near future.

According to Tasnim news agency, Zarepour said efforts are underway to send the satellite to space in the current Iranian year, which ends on March 20, 2023.

Asked about the status of Iranian satellite "Khayyam" which was launched into orbit by a Russian Soyuz rocket in August, the minister said the satellite is operating normally, its images are being received, and the ICT Ministry is interacting with the organizations that need those images.

He noted that the Iranian Space Agency inaugurated the largest and most advanced space imaging center in the country a few weeks ago, which receives and processes the satellite images taken by Khayyam.

On the cooperation with Russia in the space industry, Zarepour said Tehran and Moscow will continue close interaction by defining joint projects for four years, adding that the second, third and fourth versions of Khayyam satellite will be manufactured in collaboration between the two countries.
