  • Iran sympathizes with India over train crash

Iran’s Foreign Ministry offered condolences to India over a tragic train crash that has killed over 300 people in Balasore.

According to Tasnim news agency, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kan'ani on Saturday extended Iran’s deepest sympathy to the Indian government and people, particularly the families of victims of the incident.

More than 300 people have been killed and over 1,000 injured when a passenger train derailed and struck two other trains in eastern India on Friday.

An official said on Saturday that 300 people had died in the crash involving two passenger trains and a freight train. The cause of the crash remains unclear.

The crash in the city of Balasore, in eastern Odisha State, has marked one of the worst rail accidents in the country’s history.

The tragedy has renewed calls for Indian authorities to consider safety issues in a railway system that transports more than 13 million passengers every day.
