Iranian cyclists pocket four medals in Asian Track Cycling Championships

Iranian cyclists have put on pretty remarkable performances at the 2023 Asian Track Cycling Championships in Malaysia, and taken home four medals, including two golds.

On Friday, Iran’s 25-year-old Mohammad Ganjkhanlou participated in the men’s scratch race at the Velodrom Nasional Malaysia of the western Malaysian town of Nilai and finished as the champion.

Japanese cyclist Shunsuke Imamura claimed the silver medal and Ruslan Yelyubayev, a contestant from Kazakhstan, had to settle for the bronze.

Earlier, Iranian para-cyclist Behrouz Farzad Farzad had competed against his rivals in the men’s C-5 scratch event and stood on top of the podium to be awarded the gold medal.

Uzbek cyclist Murod O'g'li Boymurod Yavkochev picked up the silver medal, and Zuhairi Ahmad Tarmizi, a representative from the host nation, pocketed the bronze.

Pouriya Yaghoubi also vied for a medal in the junior scratch competitions and managed to clinch a silver medal.

Also, Iran’s pair of para-cyclists Mohammad Dalir Heidarabadi and Reza Rashno took part in the men’s 1km time trial competitions and bagged a bronze medal for the Islamic Republic.

The 42nd edition of Senior and the 29th edition of Junior Asian Track Cycling Championships kicked off on June 14, and will run through June 19, 2023.

The continental event has attracted dozens of cyclists from various Asian countries, including China, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
