Transit of 20 million tons of goods; Iran's increasing attraction for transit
Pars Today- Iran's foreign transit amounted to 20.3 million tons during the 11 months of the current Iranian year (ending on March 20, 2025).
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, the scale of foreign transit has reached 20.3 million tons during the 11-month period of the current year showing %26 growth in comparison with the similar period last year. According to Pars Today, Foroud Askari, General Director of Iran's Customs Administration, said that the highest rate of foreign transit in the said period was done via the customs of special zone of Martyr Rajaei (southern Iran) with 5.3 million tons, Parviz Khan (western Iran) with 4.6 million tons and Bashmaq (western Iran) with 2.7 million tons.
Jabbar Ali Zakeri, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, had also said a few days ago that the rail transit of the country had made %50 progress during the second half of the current year so that it broke its own 1.9-million-ton record.
The Islamic Republic of Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadeq, had said a few months ago in a meeting with the secretary general of IRO that Iran's transit would join the 20-million-ton club in the year 1403 (ending on March 20).
It should be noted that according to the studies of the Iranian Majlis (parliament) research center, Iran's transit capacity is 80 million tons per year. This can earn $8 billion annually if it is activated.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has the privilege that it can activate the 2000-year Silk Road or the East-West Corridor for transportation of goods from China via several borders. Iran has five transit routes to connect China to Europe. Three of these active routes are railroads and China can embark on exports through them to Europe.
In addition, China can use the North-South Corridor to access the Indian and Russian markets. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran is the international cross-roads in the real sense of the word and, the more the exporting counties use these railroad, road and even maritime privileges of Iran, the better they can excel their global rivals as the connecting routes and corridors have got high significance in the global trade.
