Pars Today – The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to Tuesday’s talks in Geneva between Iran’s deputy foreign ministers and representatives of three European countries, said that in this round of negotiations, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions on sanctions relief and its nuclear rights, in accordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), were explicitly clarified to the other parties.

According to Pars Today, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told IRIB news agency that during the talks in Geneva, Switzerland, between Iran’s deputy foreign ministers and representatives of three European countries (the UK, France, and Germany), the necessity of adopting an approach based on good faith and responsibility by all parties was emphasized, along with the need to avoid any misuse of powers and authorities in the United Nations Security Council.

Baghaei emphasized that during these negotiations, it was made clear that the European parties to the JCPOA do not have the legal or moral authority to initiate any process that would lead to the reinstatement of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran, and that the consequences of such misuse would primarily fall on the parties themselves and the non-proliferation regime.

He stated that it was agreed that contacts between the parties would continue in the coming days, with efforts made to reach a solution that provides the necessary space for ongoing diplomacy.

The new round of negotiations between Iran and the three European countries (the UK, France, and Germany) took place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in Geneva. Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi, senior Iranian diplomats, led the Iranian delegation, while political directors from the European Troika (Germany, France, and the UK) and the Deputy High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union also participated.

The previous round of these talks was held on July 25, 2025, in Istanbul. The main focus of the discussions was Europe’s threat to activate the “snapback” mechanism, as well as certain issues related to the extension of UN Security Council Resolution 2231. These negotiations followed a phone call on Friday between Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and the foreign ministers of the three European countries and the EU’s foreign policy chief, during which they agreed to continue talks at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
