Pars Today – Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations described the U.S. naval blockade as a blatant violation of Iran’s territorial integrity.

According to Pars Today, Amir‑Saeed Iravani, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, said in a letter sent on Monday (local time) to António Guterres, the UN Secretary‑General, and the president of the Security Council: “The imposition of a U.S. naval blockade against Iran is a clear violation of the prohibition on the threat or use of force under Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and, under international law, constitutes an act of aggression.”

Iravani stated: “In addition, this unlawful measure constitutes a serious breach of the fundamental principles of the international law of the sea.”

He added: “By attempting to prevent maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports, the United States is unlawfully interfering with the exercise of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s sovereign rights, and is infringing upon the rights of third states and legitimate maritime trade under international law.”

Iravani emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran firmly and strongly rejects and condemns the United States’ unlawful action.
