Iran–Tajikistan trade
Pars Today – The commercial attaché of Iran in Tajikistan said that Iran’s main advantages in the Tajik market include providing technical and engineering services, competitive industrial technologies, cultural proximity, and the ability to implement joint projects.
According to Pars Today, Mohammad Ali Amirfakhrian stated that, given the projected economic growth of over 8% in Tajikistan, the development of infrastructure projects, energy, mining industries, mineral processing, technical and engineering services, and export-oriented production support are among the country’s key economic priorities in the coming years. These areas, he said, can create significant opportunities for Iranian businesses and capable companies.
Amirfakhrian added that an analysis of Tajikistan’s foreign trade structure shows a lack of domestic capacity in developing processing industries, upgrading infrastructure, mineral processing, and completing value chains. This, he noted, can provide a valuable opportunity for Iranian companies to participate in industrial, mining, and infrastructure projects.
He announced a target of $1 billion in trade between Iran and Tajikistan, and said that Iran currently has strong competitive advantages in technical and engineering services, machinery for the food and agricultural industries, power plant equipment, construction materials, processed food products, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, cosmetics and hygiene products, detergents, plastics industries, and steel products, and therefore can supply part of Tajikistan’s market needs.
The Iranian commercial attaché in Tajikistan added that Iran, as a country with industrial production capacity, technical know-how, and experience in implementing infrastructure projects, and Tajikistan, as an economy with mineral resources, cheap energy, a regional position, and a developing market, can establish effective joint cooperation in areas such as mining industries, downstream aluminum industries, raw material processing, energy, transportation, and value-added manufacturing industries.
He noted that the Tajik market is highly influenced by competition from China, Turkey, and Russia, and added that Iran’s main advantage in this market is the provision of technical and engineering services, competitive industrial technologies, cultural proximity, and the ability to execute joint projects.
