Iran opens West Asia’s largest cancer hospital
Pars Today – Iran’s Cancer Institute Hospital, the largest hospital in West Asia with more than 610 inpatient beds, has been inaugurated in Tehran.
According to Pars Today, citing Tasnim News Agency, the new building of the Iran Cancer Institute Hospital was opened on Tuesday morning in the presence of Mohammadreza Zafarghandi, Iran’s Minister of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education. The center is designed to serve as a scientific hub for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of all types of cancer in the country.
The facility spans 60,000 square meters across 18 floors, with an estimated construction value of around 12 trillion tomans. The Iran Cancer Institute is considered the largest cancer treatment hospital in West Asia. Its equipment costs are estimated at 4,600 billion tomans, and it includes 37 specialized departments, 11 imaging and radiotherapy devices, and 96 chemotherapy beds.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Zafarghandi described the launch of the national project at the Imam Khomeini Hospital complex as one of the most important achievements in Iran’s health sector in recent years, stressing that the opening of such a facility under difficult national conditions sends a clear message of the healthcare system’s continued service and the country’s commitment to developing medical infrastructure.
He added that the project was completed and inaugurated during wartime conditions, calling it a clear message that the country’s healthcare system stands with the people. He also noted that at a recent World Health Organization (WHO) meeting in Geneva, he emphasized that Iran’s medical community has continued serving the public even in the most difficult circumstances.
