Pars Today – The Minister of Agricultural Jihad of the Islamic Republic of Iran has announced 85% self-sufficiency in ensuring the country's food security.
According to Pars Today, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, Iran's Minister of Agricultural Jihad, speaking Saturday night on the special news program of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), detailed the government's measures in the field of food security during the 12-day war and the third imposed war by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran. He reported the full preservation of the country's strategic reserves during the war, the clearance of nearly 7 million tons of goods from ports, and the achievement of 85% self-sufficiency in food security, stating: "The target set in the Seventh Development Plan is to increase this rate to over 90%."
Nouri added that Iran's agricultural production has risen from 28 million tons in the years before the Islamic Revolution to 139 million tons. Wheat production has increased from 4 million tons to approximately 14–16 million tons, raw milk production from 2.6 million tons to 13 million tons, and poultry meat production from 65,000 tons to about 3 million tons.
The Minister of Agricultural Jihad of the Islamic Republic of Iran noted that their approach has shifted from "offshore cultivation" to "offshore agriculture." For the first time, products grown under offshore agriculture have been officially imported into Iran. Approximately 100,000 tons of products, including barley and crude oil, have been brought into the country from Iranian farms in Kazakhstan.
He emphasized that operational cooperation has currently begun with countries such as Kazakhstan, Russia, and Pakistan, and negotiations are also underway with several African nations, including Kenya and Tanzania.
