Iranian center compiles list of Saudi Arabia’s rights violations

An Iranian human rights center released a report on Saturday enumerating more than a hundred cases of human rights violation by the Saudi regime.

According to Press TV, the detailed list was published by “Ziba Peace Institute”, an organization advocating human rights, which is run by a group of Iranian university students.

It has compiled 112 documented cases of Saudi Arabia’s violation of human rights and breach of international treaties.

The direst issues enumerated in the report include violation of the rights of children and failure to address crimes against them, suppression of religious and ethnic minorities, ignorance of social freedom, crackdown on opposition, violation of rights of prisoners, arrest of peaceful demonstrators, violent executions, and disregard for international calls for addressing the situation of women.

Saudi Arabia has a dismal human rights record with its application of stern law and repression of women and practitioners of religious traditions other than Sunni Islam.

Back on January 2, the Al Saud regime executed prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr among 47 people, including three other Shiite Muslims, accused of shooting policemen during anti-government protests in recent years.

The executions took place in 12 cities in Saudi Arabia, four prisons using firing squads and the others beheading. The bodies were then hanged from gibbets in the most severe form of punishment available in the kingdom's law.

Execution of the prominent cleric drew widespread international condemnation.
