Senior Iranian and Hungarian officials inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday to increase their cooperation in the field of nuclear technology.

The MoU was endorsed by Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi and Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen in Tehran on Saturday afternoon.

The two sides signed the agreement after Salehi's recent visit to Hungary and several rounds of negotiations and consultations between the two sides.

After inking the document, Salehi and Semjen also discussed the process of nuclear cooperation between Tehran and Budapest.

Salehi announced in February 2016 that Tehran had agreed with Budapest's request to build nuclear reactors for that country.

"AEOI will design and develop a 25-megawatt reactor for Hungary," Salehi told reporters after meeting his Hungarian counterpart in Budapest.

He noted that the project “requires a lot of scientific work" to come up with such a design, certainly a number of years of hard work.
