UN Security Council condemns Israeli airstrike on Iran's Embassy
PARS TODAY – Country after country condemned the terrorist actions and airstrike of the Israeli regime which destroyed Iran’s Consulate building in the Syrian capital, Damascus, at an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday.
Iran’s Deputy U.N. Ambassador Zahra Ershadi told the emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council that Iran strongly and forthrightly condemns this despicable crime and terrorist attack by the Zionist regime.
Ershadi added: "The Israeli regime has clearly violated the United Nations Charter, international laws, and the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic".
A special aide to U.N. Secretary-General on issues relating to West Asia, Asia and Oceania, Mohammad Khaled Al-Khiary also roundly condemned the Israeli attack on the Iranian Embassy in Syria, and reaffirmed “the principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises.” He also said diplomatic personnel “must be respected in all cases in accordance with international law.”
At the U.N. Security Council’s meeting, Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia lashed out at the Zionist regime, and emphasized that these Israeli actions "are totally unacceptable since the safety of diplomats and diplomatic premises must be assured at all times."
China's deputy ambassador at the UN also described the Israeli attack as a violation of Syria's territorial integrity, and expressed his condolences and sympathies to the Iranian government and nation.
Syria's Ambassador to the UN, Qussei Al-Dhahaak, who also attended the emergency meeting, stressed that no amount of Israeli military aggression can sway the Syrian people from its solid and unwavering national stance in support of the Palestinian people, and their long-denied rights, and Syria's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.
The Swiss ambassador also forthrightly condemned the Israeli airstrike on Iran's Embassy in Damascus, saying such action may well lead to a widening of regional conflict.
Slovenia's representative at the UN also condemned the Israeli attack on the Iranian Embassy, and emphasized that all sides must respect resolutions passed by the UN Security Council, in particular Resolution 2728.
Algeria's top diplomat at the UN expressed his sympathies and condolences to the Iranian nation and government, and said: "Such wanton infringement of international laws by the occupying Israeli regime is both inexcusable and intolerable".
Mozambique's top diplomat at the UN said the Israeli action "undermines world security and violates international laws and conventions".
However, the United Kingdom, France, Japan and South Korea, just like the United States, conspicuously failed to condemn Israel’s violation of international law, and simply expressed their concerns about "escalating tensions in the West Asia region".
On Monday (April 1st, 2024), the Zionist regime carried out an airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus. A total of 13 people, seven of them either diplomats or military advisors who were in Syria at the official invitation of the Syria government, were martyred in this attack.
Some Iranian military personnel, many of them members of the IRGC's elite Quds Force, are working as military advisers in Syria, having been officially invited by the Syrian government to provide assistance and specialist military advice to the Syrian Army.
The Iranian military advisers mainly provide assistance and advice to the Syrian Army in its long-running fight against Western-backed terrorists, particularly Daesh terrorists.
