A British woman who took her 1-year toddler son to Syria in 2014 to join the ISIL (Daesh) Takfiri terrorists has been sentenced to six years behind the bars.

According to Press TV, Tareena Shakil, 26, was convicted last week of being an ISIL member and encouraging acts of terrorism.

In October 2014, she took her son on board a plane to Turkey and then traveled to Syria.

She lived more than two months in the ISIL stronghold of Raqqah a mansion with women of various nationalities waiting to be matched up with male members of ISIL. While there, she sent messages and pictures promoting ISIL on social media.

Shakil soon fled, taking a taxi from the ISIL stronghold of Raqqah to the Turkish border and then returning to Britain.

She was arrested at Heathrow Airport in February 2015 and her son has since been taken into social care.

Shakil, from Birmingham in central England, denied the charges, claiming she wanted to live under strict Islamic law, not support terrorism and telling jurors she had made a mistake.
