Man hurls explosives inside Shanghai airport, injuring four

Four people have been injured in a blast after a man hurled “home-made” explosives inside a terminal in Shanghai's main international airport.
Local authorities said the incident occurred near the check-in counter of Terminal Two at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport on Sunday around 02:20 p.m. local time (0620 GMT) when an unidentified man removed a beer bottle or bottles with explosive materials from his backpack and threw them near the ticketing counter.
The official Xinhua news agency said a "home-made explosive" blew up and hurt four people including one who suffered from self-inflicted injuries -- suggesting he set off the device..
The three passengers who sustained injuries included a man from the Philippines, a 67-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman both described as Chinese, Xinhua added.
The news agency had earlier reported that the blast had been caused by fireworks.
The injuries, as airport authorities said, were light and the injured individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The assailant's motive behind the act is still unknown and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Explosives are relatively easy to obtain in China as the East Asian country is home to the world's largest mining and fireworks industries.
