Pars Today – A new report by The Economist website shows that the popularity of the U.S. president has followed a downward trend during a highly volatile year, driven in particular by dissatisfaction with the country’s economic performance.

An analysis of The Economist’s data indicates that Donald Trump entered the White House in 2025 with a positive approval rating, but this situation did not last long. Many areas that enjoyed positive ratings at the start of his second term have now fallen into the range of negative popularity.

According to Pars Today, the gradual decline in U.S. President Donald Trump’s popularity, which reached -18 percent in early December, reflects the gap between his campaign promises and the economic realities in the United States.

During his election campaign, Trump sharply criticized the economy under Biden and promised to restore a “cost-of-living-friendly life,” a pledge that initially resonated with voters and boosted his economic approval rating to +12 percent. However, rising unemployment, persistently high prices, and concerns over tariff policies and healthcare quickly eroded this political capital, driving Trump’s economic approval rating down to -17 percent.

Data shows that discontent is not limited to the economy; issues such as immigration, national security, taxation, and inflation control have also seen declining public approval. Even Trump’s immigration policies, which were once a cornerstone of his electoral success, are now facing reduced citizen satisfaction.

Notably, dissatisfaction is spreading in some states that recently voted for Trump. While his loyal base remains intact, the decline in support among college-educated voters and even a segment of older voters is being seen as a warning signal for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.

Overall, The Economist report indicates that the economy and inflation, as the main concerns of American society in 2025, have become decisive factors in weakening the president’s popularity, presenting serious challenges to the political trajectory of the Trump administration.
