Following repeated remarks by the U.S. president about the need to take control of Greenland, European countries—especially France and Germany—are coordinating efforts to craft a joint response. The response is expected to emphasize Denmark’s sovereignty and the right of the people of Greenland to determine their own future, while firmly challenging any unilateral action by the United States.

European allies, led by France and Germany, have launched intensive consultations to address a potential U.S. move against Greenland. According to a German government source, Berlin is working in close coordination with Denmark and other European countries to review various political and diplomatic response scenarios.

Pars Today reported that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the issue of Greenland would be discussed at a joint meeting with the foreign ministers of Germany and Poland. Stressing the need for collective action, Barrot said Europe intends to respond, but that the response must be coordinated and carried out within the framework of cooperation among European partners.

At the same time, a senior European official described Denmark as the central hub for coordinating these responses, although Copenhagen has not yet clearly specified the type of support it is seeking.

In recent days, leaders of several major European powers, along with Canada, have taken a common position, emphasizing that Greenland belongs to its people and that its future should not be subject to bargaining by foreign powers. These statements intensified after Donald Trump once again reiterated his interest in controlling the strategically important island, describing it as vital to U.S. military security. At the same time, the White House has spoken of reviewing various options—including a military one—an approach that has met with clear opposition from Europe.

In response, Denmark and Greenland’s local government have rejected any sale of the island and called for urgent dialogue with Washington. Danish officials have also dismissed claims about a large presence of Russian and Chinese vessels around Greenland as unfounded. Despite its small population, Greenland’s strategic location and rich mineral resources have made it one of the world’s most sensitive geopolitical hotspots.
