New York Times: U.S. on verge of a strategic defeat

Pars Today – In a report citing the United States’ failure to achieve its objectives in the war against Iran, The New York Times wrote that the conflict has not only placed the U.S. on the brink of a strategic defeat but has also severely damaged the confidence of its allies.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, the New York Times report said that Western officials and analysts believe that, from the perspective of U.S. allies, the war with Iran appears to be moving toward a strategic failure.

The report added that U.S. allies are concerned that Washington’s inability to use military force to bring about lasting change in Iran has exposed vulnerabilities that Russia and China would welcome.

The New York Times further referred to the failure to achieve U.S. President Donald Trump’s objectives in the attack on Iran and shortages of key military munitions in the U.S. armed forces. It quoted the report as saying that Iran has become more determined than before, its nuclear and missile programs have not been destroyed, and the Strait of Hormuz has effectively come under Tehran’s control.

The report concluded that this situation has placed both the United States and Israel in a weaker position, with the two sides blaming each other over the crisis.

In another part of the report, The New York Times referred to a sharp decline in the United States’ military and diplomatic credibility, stating that:

“Washington’s conduct in this war has reinforced the perception that the United States has become an unpredictable force in creating global disorder. This situation has severely damaged the confidence of U.S. allies, and many of them are seeking to reduce their dependence on Washington and diversify their foreign relations.”

At the end of the report, The New York Times compared the U.S. aggression against Iran with the wars in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, adding that the United States could once again find itself on the losing side of a prolonged war of attrition.
