US trying to achieve own economic ambitions by Russia sanctions
Austria said that the country is concerned about US attempts to influence the energy supply in Europe through its unilateral sanctions against Russia.
"US is to achieve its own economic ambitions, Juergen Schwarz, spokesman of the Austrian Chancellor said on Tuesday, TASS reported.
"That will be very alarming, if the US tries through unilateral sanctions to influence energy supply in Europe and to achieve its own economic ambitions. The European energy supply is the matter of Europe," he said.
The comments by Schwarz come as The European Commission said on Monday that it plans to hit back “within days” at the United States if possible new sanctions against Russia, which could be finalized by the end of the month, are agreed upon and leave European energy and other companies vulnerable to US interference.
The draft US sanctions law would target Russian energy, financial, railways, shipping, and metals and mining sectors.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers reached a deal on the sanctions Saturday, and the House of Representatives is due to vote on the bill Tuesday.
