Whatever the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved in the defence fields as part of its efforts to safeguard the security and dignity of the Iranian people, it is because of its faith in the Holy Qur’an where God Almighty says in ayah 60 of Surah al-Anfaal:

“Prepare against them whatever you can of [military] power and war-horses, awing thereby the enemy of Allah, and your enemy, and others besides them, whom you do not know, but Allah knows them...”

This is what Iran’s English language daily Kayhan International said in its viewpoint column on Tuesday, October 31 titled: “Iran obedient to divine decree for defence, deterrent power.”

We have more interesting details about the issue as follows:

“As per the above-mentioned commandment of God Almighty to Prophet Muhammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny) and through him to all believers in all eras, it is incumbent upon Muslims to strengthen their defences in order to protect their faith, homes, security and honour from would-be aggressors.

“It means, any laxity concerning national defence by a true-believing Muslim nation to either share its military secrets with others or bow to the dictates of the enemies of humanity by dismantling defences and deterrents, would not just be suicidal but an unforgiveable sin for its rulers who will be held accountable in afterlife for the consequences.

“Thanks to the victory of the Islamic Revolution under the astute leadership of that Sage of Age, Imam Khomeini (RA), Iran regained its past glories to emerge as a truly independent country on the world scene, to the horror of the exploitative powers, especially the US, which had until then held Iran in thrall and wholly dependent upon it, to the extent that only American technicians could tamper with the supposedly sophisticated weaponry supplied from the other side of the world.

“The 8-year war imposed by the US in 1980 through Saddam of the repressive Ba’th minority regime of Baghdad, indeed proved a blessing in disguise for Iran.

“Barred from procuring armaments from abroad, or forced to buy them at exorbitant cost, the Islamic Republic realized the eternal wisdom of Allah’s commandment in the holy Qur’an to prepare its own defences by manufacturing its needed weaponry, thereby opening a new chapter in this vital field.”

The daily took note of the fact: “Today, the selfless efforts of Iranian defence experts have made the Islamic Republic self-reliant in the manufacture of all kinds of conventional armaments such as tanks, armoured carriers, artillery pieces, bombs, radars, jet fighters, drones, warships, speedboats, torpedoes, and a variety of short, medium and long-range missiles.

“Iran’s mastery in designing and building accurate ballistic missiles, coupled with progress in cyber fields and the prowess of the country’s armed forces on the ground in adapting to different terrains as well as imparting expert training to popular forces at home and abroad for thwarting the designs of aggressors and terrorists, has angered its archenemies, especially the US and the illegal Zionist entity. These cowardly regimes, aware of the quality of Iran’s deterrents have come to realize that whatever sophisticated military hardware they supply to their clients in the region, it is no match for the defence power and dedication of the Islamic Republic.

“This explains why the quixotic US president, Donald Trump, having failed to find fault with Tehran’s commitment to the 7-nation international nuclear accord, has resorted to the threats of imposing economic sanctions in a vain bid to curtail Iran’s advanced space rocket and ballistic missile technology as well as the popular appeal of its mass mobilization forces in neighbouring countries.”

Kayhan International continued by pointing out: “As a truly Islamic state Iran has said in clear terms that the manufacture of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction is “haraam” (religiously forbidden), but on no account will it stop its spectacular progress in the conventional defence field.

“Last week, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said in his address to cadets and officers of the Imam Ali (AS) Military Academy said the enemies of Iran “are opposed to the country's defensive and military strength because this is an element of power and because this is the strategic depth of the country. Our enemies are opposed to every means of power and every element of national strength.”

“He ruled out any bargain in this regard, saying that security is essential for the progress of the country in all fields, because “if security does not exist, then scientific, industrial and economic achievements will not exist either. If security does not exist, tranquility, peace of mind and psychological comfort will not exist for the people either.”

“In the same vein, President Hojjat al-Islam Hassan Rouhani in his speech at the parliament on Sunday made it clear to the enemies, without mincing words: “You object to our weapons, we are going to manufacture and store any kind of weapons we need. This is to defend ourselves and the unity of our land and people. And we will not hesitate to use them in the appropriate time to defend ourselves.

“He added: “You know, that we have built, are building and will continue to build missiles, and this doesn't violate international law or JCPOA. We will continue to reinforce our defence abilities and to defend our national security. And if the US violates its commitments, we will react strongly.”

In view of these facts, said the daily: “Let us keep our fingers crossed to witness some fascinating developments in the missile and other defence fields, in obedience to God’s commandment in the Holy Qur’an.”
