Raeisi meets newly-released diplomat, raps so-called rights advocates
President Ebrahim Raeisi has met with Assadollah Assadi, an Iranian diplomat who was released in May after a long detention in Belgium and Germany on false terror-related charges.
Raeisi paid a visit to Assadi’s home and was warmly welcomed by the newly-released diplomat and his family members on Friday, concurrent with the 33rd return anniversary of Iranian soldiers who were held captive by the regime of Western-backed Iraqi dictator Saddam during the imposed war on Iran.
Raeisi expressed his felicitations on the freedom of the Iranian diplomat and extolled his family’s success and patience during Assadi’s illegal detention.
“The so-called advocates of human rights have once again shown that they abide by no rules and transgress international laws, regulations and principles with a blatant and unprecedented violation of diplomatic immunity,” the Iranian president said.
Assadi, for his part, discussed his captivity and imprisonment in German and Belgian jails with the chief executive.
Assadi arrived in Iran on May 26 after a five-year detention and an Omani-mediated deal.
