World venerates late Iranian president
Pars Today- The ceremony to commemorate martyrs, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, Iranian President, and Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iranian Foreign Minister, and other martyrs of the helicopter crash was held on Thursday by the UN General Assembly.
During this ceremony, attended by representatives of various countries and the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, the participants observed one minute of silence as a gesture of respect for the Iranian martyrs.
Dennis Francis, President of the United Nations General Assembly, said during the ceremony, "It is my duty to mark the memory of the Iranian President, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, who lost his life in a helicopter crash on May 19."
The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, too, said, "Seyyed Ebahim Raeisi guided Iran during a challenging juncture for the country, the region, and the world."
During the ceremony, the Non-Aligned Movement member states, also, expressing sympathy with the Iranian government and nation, announced, "The late Iranian president and foreign minister were effective in bolstering cooperation and interaction with the NAM countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran, with their guidance, played an important role in strengthening cooperation with developing nations."
The group of African countries in the UN, too, offered their condolences to the Iranian government and nation and announced that martyrs Raeisi and Amir Abdollahian made great efforts to reinforce Iran's ties with Africa and played a significant role in strengthening cooperation and mutual comprehension among nations.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani permanent representative and envoy to the UN, on behalf of the Islamic Cooperation Organization member states, appreciated the efforts of martyrs President Raeisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The Iranian President, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, with their accompanying team had gone to the East Azarbaijan province on May 9 for the inauguration of the Qiz Qalasi dam project and development and completion project of Khoda Afarin dam which was done jointly with the Republic of Azerbaijan. While returning from the ceremony, the helicopter carrying the president and his delegation crashed the mountain in Varzeqan region of East Azarbaijan province due to unfavorable weather conditions and all of the passengers were martyred.
