Pars Today – In its emergency session in Geneva, the UN Human Rights Council unanimously condemned the attack on the “Shajareh Tayyebeh” elementary school in Minab, Iran, which resulted in the martyrdom of at least more than 170 students and teachers. The Council called for an immediate investigation and accountability for those responsible for this crime.

According to Pars Today, during the emergency session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held on Friday—requested by the Islamic Republic of Iran, China, and Cuba and convened to review and condemn the U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in Minab—senior Iranian and international officials, including Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, and one of the mothers of the victims, delivered speeches.

In his address, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the attack, describing it as a shocking example of the impact of war on civilians, especially children. He stated that, according to reports, more than 170 students, teachers, and school staff were martyred in the strike.

Farida Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, also referred to the 28 February attack and the use of Tomahawk missiles in the strike on the Minab school, stating that this attack constitutes a potential “war crime” and a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

During this session, nearly 60 countries and 19 representatives of civil society also delivered statements condemning the U.S. attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab. They called for adherence to humanitarian law during armed conflicts and for the rapid de-escalation of tensions, while emphasizing the need for a prompt, transparent, and independent investigation into the attack.
