Ghalibaf: Iranian nation to resist oppression and arrogance inspired by Ashura culture

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament
Pars Today – In a message marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Muharram, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament described the month as a reminder of epic sacrifice, selflessness, and freedom, stressing that the Iranian nation will stand against oppression and excessive demands by drawing inspiration from the culture of Ashura and the path of the martyrs.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said in his message that Muharram is a month symbolizing heroism, sacrifice, and the continued raising of the banner of freedom and the pursuit of justice associated with Imam Hussein and the Ahl al-Bayt.
The message reads: “I extend my condolences on the arrival of Muharram, the month of epic struggle and sacrifice, and the month in which the banner of Husayni freedom and the pursuit of justice remains raised, to all followers and devotees of the school of Ahl al-Bayt.”
This year’s Muharram arrives as the great and grieving nation of Iran has endured difficult and sorrowful yet proud and glorious days, once again demonstrating its spirit of resistance and steadfastness before the world by drawing on the culture of Ashura in a historic test.
The heroism of the sons of this land in the two previous imposed wars and the courageous steadfastness of the Iranian people in confronting their enemies serve as a reminder of this truth: a nation that has Ashura will never bow before any power.
The honored martyrs of these battles are the continuation of the path of the martyrs of Karbala and the eight-year Sacred Defense. They are men who safeguarded the dignity, security, and independence of Islamic Iran with their blood and proved that in the Husayni tradition, martyrdom is not the end of the path, but the beginning of the lasting legacy of an ideal.
This year, we welcome the gatherings and mourning ceremonies for Imam Hussein (PBUH) while the places of some beloved figures remain empty among the mourners. Those who once joined us in saying “Ya Hussein” but today are guests of the generosity of Imam Hussein. At the forefront of them stands the enduring name of the great standard-bearer of Islam, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the martyred Imam Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, a revered martyr who taught us what it means to become Husayni, live Husayni, and depart Husayni.
He passed the banner of the Ashura movement, with its call for freedom and the pursuit of justice, from the late Imam Khomeini (God bless his soul) to his successor, leaving us with a profound loss.
The memory of the martyrs and all devoted followers of Imam Hussein who are no longer among us will remain alive in every mourning banner and every tear of devotion. And as stated by the Leader of the Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, we will seek justice for them as long as we draw breath.
