Iraqi forces thwart terrorist attacks south of Mosul

Nearly one hundred members of the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group have been slain when Iraqi security forces foiled two separate attacks by the terrorists against two villages in Iraq’s troubled northern province of Nineveh.

The Baghdad-based War Media Cell announced in a statement that Iraqi security personnel killed at least 91 Daesh (ISIL) members as the terrorists mounted offensives against the villages of Mahana and Kharbadan, south of the militant-held city of Mosul, on Friday.

The developments came only a few days after Iraqi security forces repelled a Daesh assault against the village of Nasr south of Mosul.

Also on Friday, Iraqi security forces killed a number of Takfiri terrorists in Shemal Nahr district, on the western outskirts of Baghdad, as they struck the terrorists’ base and cleared the area of their presence.

Elsewhere south of Fallujah, located roughly 69 km west of Baghdad, fighters from the pro-government Popular Mobilization Units destroyed a terrorist pick-up truck loaded with anti-tank and guided Kornet missiles.

On Thursday, Iraqi security forces also killed a high-ranking Daesh commander, identified by the nom de guerre Abu Suhaib al-Maghrebi, and three of his aides during a counter-terrorism operation in the Zakhikhah district of the western province of Anbar.
