Thousands of Iranian and foreign pilgrims traveled to Iraq to participate in Arba’een mourning procession while over 3 million have registered so far.
Arba’een, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH), the third Shias’ Imam.
Each year, a huge crowd of people flock to the holy city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH) is located, to perform mourning rites.
