The spokesman of Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa Qassim warns that there will be consequences if the prominent Shia cleric is harmed or taken away from the people.

According to Press TV, Seyyed Majid al-Mashal issued the warning on Wednesday, after stressing that the people of Bahrain seek a peaceful solution to the predicament.

“If Sheikh Isa Qassim is harmed in any manner or taken away from the people, there will be no guarantee for a peaceful solution to the crisis within the framework of national resolve,” he said.

Less than a month ago, authorities in Manama revoked the nationality of Sheikh Qassim, accusing him of seeking the “creation of a sectarian environment” through his connections with foreign powers.

On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned that Bahrain’s crackdown on dissent may have catastrophic results in the region, and called for international attention to the Manama regime’s actions.

Since February 14, 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations in Bahrain on an almost daily basis, calling on the Ale Khalifah family to relinquish power.

The Ale Khalifah regime is engaged in a harsh crackdown on dissent and widespread discrimination against the country's Shia majority. Scores of people have been martyred and hundreds of others injured or arrested in the tiny Persian Gulf state.
