Ceasefire in Gaza: A pretext for expanding Israel’s regional dominance
Pars Today – The Guardian wrote in an article that temporary ceasefires in Gaza serve as a pretext for the continuation of Israel’s colonial dominance in the region. The killings and violence are not limited to Gaza, and more serious threats continue to expand.
In an article by Nasrin Malik, The Guardian stated that Israeli killings are not confined to Gaza, and the ceasefire acts as a justification for the regime’s colonial rule in the region. According to Pars Today, the article addresses current challenges in Gaza and other war-torn areas of West Asia, highlighting the role of the Israeli regime in perpetuating this situation.
In October of this year, the United Nations recorded over 260 attacks by Israeli settlers—the highest number since record-keeping began 20 years ago. More than 93 percent of investigations into these attacks are closed without any charges. Dozens of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails lose their lives due to physical violence or medical neglect, and those who survive speak of a hell filled with torture and abuse. Meanwhile, Israel’s license to attack, kill, and seize land continues to expand.
The Guardian wrote that broken ceasefires and ongoing invasions reflect the expansion of Israeli crimes. Despite claims of reduced tensions, Israeli attacks continue, and more than 300 people have been martyred in Gaza since the ceasefire.
The article states that Israeli authorities, by continuing to impose collective punishments, have kept the people of Gaza in unbearable conditions, making normal life impossible. In the West Bank, repression and forced displacements continue and have intensified since 7 October 2023.
Recently, images have emerged showing the killing of Palestinians by Israeli forces, highlighting the extreme horror of these violences. Israel’s minister of internal security has also supported and justified these actions.
In other areas, such as Lebanon and Syria, Israeli attacks continue, and living conditions remain dire. Despite the blockade and ongoing assaults, the United Nations and other international bodies have not addressed the situation. In Lebanon, where 64,000 people remain displaced following last year’s war and Israeli attacks have intensified, Israel has bombarded Lebanese territory almost daily, despite peace agreement negotiations last November.
Last week, Israeli forces carried out a ground incursion into southern Syria, killing 13 Syrians, including children. Human Rights Watch has accused Israeli forces of applying in Syria the same colonial policies seen in Gaza: forced displacement, house seizures, destruction, cutting off livelihoods, and the illegal transfer of detained Syrians to Israel. Israel intends to maintain its presence indefinitely.
The article’s author concludes by emphasizing the necessity of stopping Israel’s illegal actions in the occupied territories, writing that the illusion of a return to normalcy applies not only to Gaza but across all of Palestine, and will soon lead to failure.
