Ali al‑Zaidi becomes Iraq’s new PM

Pars Today — Iraq’s Shia Coordination Framework agreed on Monday night, in its latest meeting, to nominate Ali al‑Zaidi for the post of prime minister.

According to Pars Today, after the Shia Coordination Framework coalition introduced Ali al‑Zaidi as its candidate for the position, President Nizar Omidi tasked him with forming the country’s new government.

Al‑Zaidi is an economist and is a relatively unknown figure in politics for many Iraqis. He also did not participate in Iraq’s most recent parliamentary elections. According to the law, Ali al‑Zaidi has one month to form his cabinet and present it to parliament to obtain a vote of confidence.

Following the selection of Ali al‑Zaidi as prime minister, Iraq’s president called on all political groups to assist him in quickly fulfilling this legal and national duty.
