Pars Today – The opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup featured a combination of music and performances inspired by Mexican culture.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup is being held for the first time as a joint tournament hosted by three countries—Mexico, the United States, and Canada—with the participation of 48 teams from around the world. The opening ceremony took place on Thursday night at the historic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. During the ceremony, which was attended by major football figures, music and performance groups entertained the spectators with various shows.

First goal of the World Cup for Mexico

The teams of Mexico and South Africa faced each other at 22:30 Tehran time in the opening match, marking the start of the tournament. Julián Quiñones of Mexico scored in the 9th minute, bringing joy to the home fans and scoring the first goal of the 2026 World Cup.

South Korea defeats the Czech Republic

In the second match of the 2026 World Cup, South Korea and the Czech Republic played at 05:30 (Friday Tehran time) at Guadalajara Stadium in Mexico. The match ended with a 2–1 victory for the Asian side.
