‘West blocks Palmyra resolution, revealing disinterest in Syrian peace process’

Blocking a draft UNSC resolution on Palmyra liberation can be regarded as the absence of interest from the West in the Syrian peace process.
The decision to block a draft resolution on Palmyra liberation in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) shows that the West is not interested in the Syrian peace process, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday, Sputnik reported.
"This decision to block the resolution shows that they are not interested in the process of liberating Syria from terrorists or promoting the peace process… not even cultural values and other things they often claim. Geopolitical interest is exclusively behind all of this," Zakharova said.
She added that Russia has now decided to submit a draft resolution on Palmyra to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), calling for the reconstruction of the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra.
