The second round of the 14th presidential election was held on Friday, July 15, and according to the final results, Masoud Pezeshkian was elected as the president of Iran. Iran's 9th president, born in 1954, holds a specialized degree in cardiovascular surgery.

Pezeshkian served as the Minister of Health from 2001 to 2005 in the reformist government.

He was also a representative of the people of Tabriz, Azarshahr, and Osku in Iran's Majlis (parliament) for five terms.

Pezeshkian was also the deputy speaker of the Majlis.

Pezeshkian entered the competition with the slogan "For Iran" and promised to achieve "justice", strengthen unity and cohesion in society, and implement the "Seventh National Development Plan" based on the policies of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei.

He also promised during the election campaign that if he wins, he will launch "Kamand" committee (a supervisory committee on the government) which will serve as a bridge between the people and the government.

In the first round of the 14th presidential election, held on Friday, July 8, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, Saeid Jalili, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Masoud Pezeshkian competed with each other, but since none of them could gain an absolute majority of votes, the election went to a second round with Pezeshkian and Jalili, who received the most votes. Finally, in the election held yesterday, Pezeshkian was elected as the 9th president of Iran with 16,384,403 votes.

Iranians living abroad also participated extensively in the election.

Alireza Mahmoudi, the secretary of the election headquarters abroad, announced that the participation of Iranians abroad in the election was 20% higher in the second round compared to the first round.

The head of the Iran's Interests Section in Washington also reported warm participation of Iranian residents in the US in the election, despite obstacles created by some opponents.
