  • How did West turn

Pars Today- Spokesman of Iran's foreign ministry, pointing to the global Human Rights Day, stressed that instrumental exploiting of human rights discourse for political gains is the greatest harm and danger for safeguarding human rights.

According to Pars Today, Esmail Baqaei, Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, wrote on his official account of X social network on the occasion of Human Rights Day, "On the global Human Rights Day, mankind boasts of his valuable achievement to ratify the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948. Yet, instrumental usage of the human rights discourse for political gains, coupled with double standards and selective treatments, remain as the greatest harm and danger for safeguarding human rights, and have exposed the coherence and credit of human rights structure to serious danger."

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an international covenant which was approved at the United Nations General Assembly on the 10th of December, 1948 in Paris. This declaration includes 30 articles which explain the view of the UN about human rights. The content of this declaration has specified a civil, cultural, economic, political and social foundation which every individual of mankind in every country should enjoy.

Although the concept of human rights is accepted throughout the world and by the international community, a cursory look at the approaches, stances and measures of the West, led by the US, reveals that the Westerners have their own specific and limited definition of this fundamental concept and deal with human rights situation in other countries, especially opponents, with their own criteria and yardstick.

While the issue of human rights has different dimensions in various regions of the world and various countries and also among the world religions, it is a false move that the West judges this issue in other countries according to its specific definition of human rights. The issue of double standards of the West on human rights has been raised several times by the countries opposing the Western hegemony, like Iran and the rivals of the West such as China and Russia.

Human rights have turned into a tool in the hand of the Westerners for years to launch propaganda assault and stage psychological war against the countries opposing the Western hegemony. A clear example, in this regard, is the accusation of Russia of violating human rights and committing war crimes in Ukraine and even issuing arrest warrant for the Russian President, Vladimir Putin by the International Criminal Court which has been welcomed and supported by Western countries, particularly, the US and Europeans. This is while, the arrest warrant for the Zionist regime Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the regime's former War Minister, Yoav Gallant, by the ICC, on charges of genocide and exploitation of forced hunger as a weapon and blocking relief aid to reach the people of Gaza has faced with severe criticism, condemnation and opposition of the Westerners, especially, the US. European countries are members of the ICC and have the duty to implement its rulings; yet, many of these countries have shrugged off this duty with various pretexts. The United States, too, has threatened this court with sanctions and punishment.

Ilhan Umar, Muslim Democratic member of the US Congress, said that Washington's claims about human rights violation all over the world are "hypocritical".

Moreover, the Westerners consider themselves immune of examining human rights situation and, that's why, they don't give a farthing to the reports, statements and resolutions of human rights bodies, like the UN Human Rights Council, concerning human rights situation in the countries, such as the United States.

A glance at human rights situation in the US shows a severe violation of this issue in the country. Continuation of discriminatory treatment of the people of color and unlimited police violence against them, and also, Washington's black record abroad with military operation, attacks and war crimes in many countries, such as Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, and building of prisons and inhumane behavior with and torture of the "accused" are all indicative of the mendacity of Washington's masquerading as an "advocate" of human rights.

As in the European countries, too, which keep to claim human rights vociferously, the situation is very shocking. In countries, like France, Germany and Britain, discrimination and violence against the people of color, migrants and refugees, spread of discrimination and violence against Muslims, who are mostly migrants and refugees, tough and inappropriate conditions for workers, gender and ethnic discriminations in various fields, especially employment and education are rampant."
